One of the most joyful and beautiful festivals to be celebrated on the Indian subcontinent is Diwali, the festival of lights. The very word Diwali conjures up the image of winking lights and flickering diyas. Not to forget the gorgeous array of sparkling colours emitted by the firecrackers that seems to awaken the night sky. Diwali is known for success and prosperity. With this Diwali, let us take you to the real meaning of success which commonly is understood as achievement of great heights. Success is within; the success is in satisfying oneself and success is in each small step that brings you closer to your goals. Krishnamurthy Rengarajan, IIT-B gold medalist proves his merit by winning the Rakesh Mathur award of Rs 1 lakh (Rs 100,000) during his third year and other scholarships throughout the four years. The grit and gumption of Krishnamurthy is further strengthened by lines on winning and quitting and rightly it can be put here that winners never quit and quitters never win. With determination within and trust in efforts anything and everything can be achieved and icing on the cake is concretization of these efforts which will lead the student fraternity in a systematic and guided direction. Combined efforts Yale University (Yale has matured into one of the world’s great universities. Its 11,000 students come from all fifty American states and from 108 countries. The 3,200-member faculty is a richly diverse group of men and women who are leaders in their respective fields), Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-Delhi) and Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM- Kozhikode) will create leaders in teaching and will also contemporize the teachers. This will certainly benefit students to inculcate right attitude and to follow right course of action. In the world of globalization this effort can be a marvel. After recession, companies are now again looking for bright students and IIT-Madras has been and will be attracting good companies especially oil and gas majors. With the influx of these companies, engineering in other than the most known ones have been exerting a pull like that of petroleum engineering. IITs and IITians have been known world wide for their techie alacrity, scientific attitude and pragmatism and the testimony of the fact is that four IITians together create innovative robotic fish that can be used for underwater surveillance, especially for identifying obstructions and pollution in water. Also this November Diwali Special Issue of VAKTAVYA (monthly e-newsletter of Resonance) unfolds an informal chat with Vipul Singh who has the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) with a score of 412. His other achievements include- 5th topper in the list of IIT JEE, topped the ninth All-India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination, IIT-JEE topper from the Kharagpur region, and topping the International Mathematics Olympiad and securing an overall rank-2 in the National Science Olympiad. The issue brings before you in the Science section 10 fields of engineering to give a bird’s eye view so that the students may know and choose accordingly. Also it gives a brief introduction of Dentistry and also unleashes the word power to strengthen the word prowess. In all, the e-newsletter is an attempt to bring the maximum to the readers in terms of different avenues, news updates about different competitive exams, motivational doze and word power with a motto to benefit the student fraternity to the maximum. Hope this issue fulfills it’s the maxim and suggestions and your regular feedback will help update it as per your preference. We once again wish you a happy Diwali and a prosperous new year.
